Effect of in ovo inoculation of Moringa oleifera leaves extract on hatchability and chicken growth performance

Egg and poultry meat account for 35.56% of human animal protein requirements in the world (NYS et al., 2011). Considering the progress of animal product consumption in developing countries, a 3.9% increase in poultry product consumption is projected, while cattle and pigs will contribute respectively for 2.9% and 2.4% up to 2020 (DELGADO et al., 2003). The supply of this demand requires a substantial production of day-old chickens.

Effect of Moringa oleifera leaves on feed transit and morphometric parameters of the digestive tract of layer pullets and laying hens

The chicken digestive tract contains a lot of micro-organisms including bacteria (pathogens and non-pathogens) of about 1014 per g of content (VILĂ et al., 2010). Feed undertakes a transit along the digestive tract where it is subjected to digestion and absorption processes. Feed transit time is closely linked to amount of ingested nutrients by the animal and influences, subsequently, the digestion efficiency (HOCKING et al., 2004).

Effect of carica papaya seeds on gastro-intestinalparasites of pullet and production parameters

Chicken gut can be contaminated by bacteria, viruses, protozoa and parasites such us worms (Trichostrongylus sp, Heterakis sp, Ascaridia sp, Syngamus sp etc.) which may negatively affect its health status and consequently production performance. Worm contamination is very frequent in tropical countries whether in modern or local poultry flocks.

A model for promoting poultry industry development in Togo: feeding improvement, capacity building and extension

Togo is a primarily agricultural country, with rural dwellers estimated at 80% of the total population. Animal husbandry contributes only 5.4% to gross domestic product (Aklobessi and De Souza, 2007). In the 1970's, livestock development policies, with emphasis on short-cycle animals especially poultry, as key components were launched.

Spread of hatch and delayed feed access affect post hatch performance of female broiler chicks up to day 5

Early feeding after hatch improves the initiation of growth in neonatal chicks (Bigot et al., 2003a), and this growth promoting effect lasts until marketing (Noy and David, 1999).
